On April 15, 2010, the honorable Judith Morrow granted preliminary approval of a settlement reached between plaintiffs and American Honda. The case, Browne v. American Honda, was brought on behalf of owners of 2008, 2009 and certain 2010 Honda Accords as well as 2009 and certain 2010 Acura TSX vehicles. The complaint filed in the case alleges that the brakes in these vehicles prematurely wear out as result of an alleged defect in design of Honda’s electronic braking system. The approved settlement, if granted final approval in September, reimburses consumers for payments they previously made to purchase brake pads, and provides class members with significant payments to cover the future cost of new brake pads.
